1st International Duckweed Workshop – Lemnaceae: Roots, Nutrient Uptake & the Circular Economy
Wednesday, 30th April 2025 – Mount Lucas Discovery Centre
Delegates from across Ireland, England, Scotland, Wales and Belgium attended workshop where duckweed and its role in the circular bioeconomy was discussed.
The focus of the workshop was on Lemnaceae root biology, uptake of nutrients and pollutants into fronds and the growth on and remediation of wastewaters from agricultural and other sources.

Delegates from across Ireland, Switzerland, Sweden and Greece attended workshop to discuss digitalisation, duckweed and the bioeconomy.




Researchers & Academics Exploratory Session
The inaugural workshop for researchers and academics took place 15th May 2024.
The workshop was designed to;
- Provide information on current Mount Lucas activities.
- Provide opportunity to discuss peatland land use change and use of the Mount Lucas site to further develop the bioeconomy in the Midlands & surrounding Just Transition region.
- Demonstrate the development of a novel peatland based Bioeconomy Demonstration Hub and model farm for the Midlands and JT region
- Discuss nexus to education and training in the Midlands and surrounding JT region
