The BA in Accounting programme is designed in consultation with industry, and the professional accountancy bodies to provide graduates with the skills set necessary to become effective problem solvers and decision makers.

The subject content of the programme has been strategically aligned to ensure that graduates will receive maximum exemptions from the professional accountancy bodies.

What are the entry requirements?

(a) A minimum PASS honours bachelor degree (Level 8) in a cognate discipline
or
(b) A minimum PASS honours bachelor degree (Level 8) in a non-cognate discipline with considerable experience and/or ability evidenced by an RPL portfolio of prior experience and learning
or
(c) Equivalent Qualifications. Applicants with equivalent qualifications on the European and International frameworks will also be considered. International students must evidence a proficiency in English language (IELTS 6.0).

Recognised Prior Learning (RPL): Prospective applicants who do not meet the academic entry requirements should submit their application online and then email flexible.midwest@tus.ie to request assessment via RPL.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE: Applicants who do not have English as their first language must ensure they satisfy English Language requirements. For entry to undergraduate courses, a score of 5.5 in an IELTS or equivalent exam is required. For postgraduate courses, a score of 6.0 in an IELTS or equivalent exam is required. It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure their English proficiency meets these requirements.

  • 2 semesters per year – 12 weeks per semester

    Weekly pre-recorded lectures and live tutorials per module.

  • Year 1 – Semester 1

    Fundamentals of Accounting – Thurs 7-8.30pm

  • Year 1 – Semester 2

  • Each 5 credits will normally equate to approximately 100 Total Learning Hours. Total Learning Hours includes the time you spend in class (lectures, tutorials, practical elements) and the time you spend completing work outside of college. The balance between these two varies by discipline, and by level of study. You should bear in mind that the workload will increase at particular times e.g. when assignments are due.

  • Quantitative Methods and the Business and Economic Environment will be assessed by 100% Continuous Assessment. The assessment for both modules will consist of a Written Project and Oral Presentation. The oral presentation will take place on campus at the end of the semester. All of the other modules will be assessed by a written exam or equivalent at the end of the relevant semester.

    Materials:

    Students will be required to purchase a study manual for each module. Approximate cost per module is €50. Details will be provided by programme team on course commencement.
