Course Overview

The primary aim of the Higher Diploma in Arts in Accounting is to facilitate graduates from non-accounting programs who wish to pursue a career in accounting. The aim of this one-year program is to give business, arts, science and other graduates, exemptions from the professional accountancy and taxation examinations.

What are the entry requirements?

An honours degree (Level 8) in a non-finance and accounting or a non-cognate discipline or approved equivalent qualification.

OR

A Level 7 qualification in a non-finance and accounting or a non-cognate discipline and at least 1 year relevant professional experience/responsibility.

Recognised Prior Learning (RPL): Prospective applicants who do not meet the academic entry requirements should submit their application online and then email Flexible.midwest@tus.ie to request assessment via RPL.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE: Applicants who do not have English as their first language must ensure they satisfy English Language requirements. For entry to undergraduate courses, a score of 5.5 in an IELTS or equivalent exam is required. For postgraduate courses, a score of 6.0 in an IELTS or equivalent exam is required. It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure their English proficiency meets these requirements.

More Information

  • 2 semesters per year / 12 weeks per semester / Weekly pre-recorded lectures and live tutorials per module;

  • Year 1 – Semester 1

    Transaction Tax Applications – Tues 7-8.30pm

    Cost Accouting and Decision Making – Wed 7-8.30pm

  • Year 1 – Semester 2

    Audit Planning and Implementation – Tues 7-8.30pm

    Personal and Business Tax – Wed 7-8.30pm

  • Students will be required to purchase a study manual for each module. Approximate cost per module is €50. Details will be provided by programme team on course commencement.

  • Each 5 credits will normally equate to approximately 100 Total Learning Hours. Total Learning Hours includes the time you spend in class (lectures, tutorials, practical elements) and the time you spend completing work outside of college. The balance between these two varies by discipline, and by level of study. You should bear in mind that the workload will increase at particular times e.g. when assignments are due.

  • Assessment will be a mix of continuous assessment and final written exams at the end of each semester. End of semester exams will be held in TUS Midlands Midwest, Moylish/Clonmel Campus (TBC on course commencement).
